A Journey into Shufa

(Chinese Calligraphy)

Shufa is a meditative practice of rhythm and focus.

This workshop offers a refined introduction for those with no prior experience in the art or the Chinese language.

In a deliberate two-hour pause, you will move from historical foundations to creating authentic Shufa, recognizable by Google Translate.

Give yourself the luxury to step into the serene world of ink and paper from a fast-paced world.

What to Expect

Learn the foundational techniques and the rich history behind one of the world’s oldest living art forms, officially an Intangible Cultural Heritage recognized by UNESCO.

No prior knowledge of Chinese is required. The curriculum is designed to guide you through the logic and beauty of the characters.

Receive personalized guidance within a small to mid-sized group (accommodating 2 to 30 guests), ensuring every stroke is intentional.

By the end of the session, you will have composed your own calligraphic pieces—meaningful keepsakes of your creative journey to take home.

Teresa is hugely knowledgeable and passionate about calligraphy and does a fantastic job of transferring that knowledge in a way that is interesting and fun. We enjoyed learning about the history of Mandarin characters and understanding more about the materials we would be using. We were trying out calligraphy for the first time. We had plenty of time to practise the strokes and Teresa provided lots of encouraging feedback. At the end of the morning we were proud of what we had achieved in a short time.

What a great night! Having the opportunity to spend a few hours learning the basic brush strokes was wonderful! I was part of a small group of two and we not only learned the history of calligraphy and how is has changed over time, but had substantial time to practice before creating our own keepsake to bring home. The class is a great value for the price, and you walk away with not only a memento that is framed and laminated, but also a new talent. Teresa is absolutely fabulous! I highly recommend this course if you have a few free hours in Taipei!!
